Area of Science:

  • Surgical Oncology
  • Minimally Invasive Surgery

Background:

  • Breast surgery techniques are advancing, with robotic-assisted procedures emerging.
  • Robotic-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy (RNSM) is a novel approach under investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review the techniques, complications, and clinical outcomes of robotic-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy (RNSM).
  • To evaluate the current data on RNSM's safety and effectiveness.

Main Methods:

  • Review of existing literature and data on robotic-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy.
  • Analysis of techniques, complication rates, and oncological outcomes.

Main Results:

  • Initial studies suggest RNSM may offer improved patient satisfaction and aesthetic results.
  • Complication and oncological outcomes appear similar to traditional methods in selected patients.

Conclusions:

  • RNSM is an investigational technique in the U.S.
  • Clinical trials with FDA approval are necessary to rigorously assess RNSM's safety and effectiveness.
