Summary

Postoperative radiologic measurements like Böhler and Gissane angles do not correlate with clinical outcomes in surgically treated calcaneal fractures. Arthritis in the calcaneocuboid and subtalar joints also showed no significant impact on patient function.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the correlation between postoperative radiologic variables and clinical outcomes in patients with surgically treated calcaneal fractures.
  • To determine if measurements like Böhler and Gissane angles predict functional recovery.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 70 adult patients with displaced intraarticular calcaneal fractures treated surgically.
  • Weightbearing radiographs were used to measure differences in Böhler and Gissane angles and assess joint arthritis (Kellgren-Lawrence scale).
  • Clinical outcomes were evaluated using the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot scale, VAS, FFI, and Tegner Activity Scale.

  • Radiologic findings following open reduction and internal fixation of calcaneal fractures are not reliable predictors of patient function.
