Left ventricular free wall rupture, a deadly heart attack complication, was successfully treated. A novel suture-free technique using EVARREST Fibrin Sealant Patch provided a life-saving repair.

Background:

  • Left ventricular free wall rupture (LVFWR) is a critical and often fatal complication following myocardial infarction (MI).
  • Current surgical repair strategies for LVFWR are highly individualized and associated with significant morbidity and mortality.
  • Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is an uncommon cause of MI, particularly in women.

Observation:

  • A patient with Turner syndrome presented with acute myocardial infarction.
  • The myocardial infarction was complicated by spontaneous coronary artery dissection leading to left ventricular free wall rupture.
  • The patient's condition necessitated emergent surgical intervention.

Findings:

  • A suture-free repair technique was successfully employed for the left ventricular free wall rupture.
  • The repair utilized the EVARREST Fibrin Sealant Patch during cardiopulmonary bypass.
  • This approach facilitated a durable and effective closure of the rupture.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a potential novel therapeutic approach for managing left ventricular free wall rupture.
