The process of organ transplantation is a challenging and special journey for both recipients and their relatives. Psychosocial factors have been proven to significantly influence the transplantation process and outcome. One important example of these factors is patient adherence to medical therapy. Adherence is significantly influenced by social support. Interventions aiming improvement of social support, i.e., peer mentoring programs are used in many patient groups. The main goals of these programs are patient education and psychological support. The purpose of our summary is to review the literature on peer mentoring programs in adult heart transplantation.
