Anemia linked to aortic stenosis (AS) may worsen the condition. Studies in mice and humans suggest anemia, via transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), contributes to AS progression and bleeding.

- This mechanism may also contribute to additional gastrointestinal bleeding via WSS-induced AVWS.
