The Re-access Carbide Double Taper Kit demonstrated superior effectiveness and efficiency in removing various fiber posts (FPs). This study compared four FP types and five drill systems, highlighting the best tools for successful post removal.
Area of Science:
- Dental Materials Science
- Endodontics
- Prosthodontics
Background:
- Fiber posts (FPs) are widely used in endodontically treated teeth.
- Effective and efficient removal of FPs is crucial for retreatment and managing complications.
Purpose of the Study:
- To compare the effectiveness and efficiency of different post removal systems.
- To evaluate the performance of various drill systems on different types of fiber posts.
Main Methods:
- 200 maxillary first molars were root canal treated and prepared for posts.
- Four types of fiber posts (Radix FP, Reforpost Glass Fiber, Hi-Rem Endodontic Post, D.T. Light-Post Illusion X-RO) were used.
- Five post removal drill systems (PD-25-1.1 Drill, GC FP Drill, EasyPost Precision Drill, Reaccess Carbide Double Taper Kit, H-Endodontic Drill) were tested.
Main Results:
- Significant differences in efficiency and effectiveness were found among fiber post types and drill systems (p=0.00).
- The Re-access Carbide Double Taper Kit and PD-25-1.1 Drill showed the shortest mean removal times.
- The Reforpost Glass Fiber with GC FP Drill achieved the highest effectiveness score, while Hi-Rem post with Re-access Carbide Double Taper Kit had the lowest.
Conclusions:
- The Re-access Carbide Double Taper Kit exhibited superior effectiveness and efficiency in fiber post removal.
- Hi-Rem posts demonstrated the best retrieval results among the tested fiber posts.
- Knowledge of optimal tools and techniques can minimize complications during post removal.
