Identification of termites from Gabon using MALDI-TOF MS

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) accurately identifies termite species in Gabon. This proteomic method overcomes limitations in traditional morphological and molecular identification for pest management.

- Blind testing of 98 termite spectra against an upgraded database showed 100% correct species matching, with 95.91% achieving log score values above 1.8.
