    The presence of Streptococcus mutans significantly increases the risk of dental caries in children. Higher levels of this bacteria correlate with more new and progressing cavities on tooth surfaces.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between Streptococcus mutans colonization and the incidence and progression of approximal caries in children.

    • Longitudinal study of 28 children (13 years old at baseline) over two years.
