Background:

Digital ischemia, a severe manifestation of visceral ischemic events, can indicate underlying systemic disorders.
Early recognition and management are crucial to prevent tissue damage and necrosis.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the diverse rheumatological etiologies of digital ischemia.
To highlight the importance of a rheumatological perspective in managing digital ischemia across specialties.

Main Methods:

Case series of six patients presenting with digital ischemia.
Exclusion of infectious, traumatic, cardiac, drug-induced, and malignant causes.
Evaluation for autoimmune causes including antinuclear antibodies (ANA), antiphospholipid antibodies, extractable nuclear antigens (ENA), Doppler ultrasound, and angiography.

Main Results:

Six patients (two pediatric, four adult) presented with digital ischemia.
Diagnoses included scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, and Takayasu arteritis.
Patients often initially presented to non-rheumatology departments.

Conclusions:

Digital ischemia is a multidisciplinary issue frequently linked to rheumatological disorders.
Timely rheumatological referral is essential to prevent digit and limb loss.
Increased awareness among all specialties is vital for effective patient management.
