The immune cell score, based on Immunoscore®, did not show a significant association with survival in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patients. This suggests it may not be a reliable prognostic tool for ccRCC outcomes.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Immunology
- Pathology
Background:
- Immunoscore® is a validated prognostic marker in colorectal cancer, correlating with patient survival.
- Previous research suggests Immunoscore® may also predict outcomes in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the prognostic significance of the immune cell score in patients with ccRCC.
- To determine if lymphocyte densities, as measured by Immunoscore®, can predict oncological outcomes in ccRCC.
Main Methods:
- Retrospective analysis of 203 ccRCC patients who underwent surgery.
- Determination of immune cell score using CD3+ and CD8+ cell densities based on Immunoscore® principles.
- Statistical evaluation using ROC analysis, Kaplan-Meier curves, and Cox regression.
Main Results:
- No significant differences in disease-specific mortality were observed across low, intermediate, and high immune cell score groups.
- Adjusted Cox regression analysis (controlling for age, sex, CCI) showed no prognostic value.
- Hazard ratios for disease-specific mortality were 0.93 (intermediate) and 1.12 (high) compared to the low group.
Conclusions:
- The immune cell score, utilizing Immunoscore® methodology, was not associated with survival in ccRCC patients.
- These findings indicate that the immune cell score may not be a suitable prognostic biomarker for ccRCC.
