Naked-eye 3-dimensional vision training (NVT) effectively slowed myopia progression in children. This safe intervention showed significant reductions in axial length and spherical equivalent refraction over six months.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Pediatric Optometry
- Clinical Trials
Background:
- Early-onset myopia increases the risk of high myopia, potentially leading to irreversible vision loss.
- Effective myopia control strategies are crucial for preventing severe visual impairment in children.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the efficacy and safety of naked-eye 3-dimensional vision training (NVT) in preventing myopia progression among children.
- To assess the impact of NVT on axial length and spherical equivalent refraction.
Main Methods:
- A randomized clinical trial involving 263 children aged 6-18 years with myopia.
- The intervention group received daily 20-minute NVT sessions, while the control group received no vision training.
- Primary outcome measured was the change in axial length at 6 months; spherical equivalent refraction was a secondary outcome.
Main Results:
- The NVT group showed a smaller increase in axial length (0.18 mm) compared to the control group (0.23 mm), a statistically significant difference (P < .001).
- The intervention also resulted in a significantly smaller myopic shift in spherical equivalent refraction (-0.25 D vs. -0.35 D, P = .02).
- No adverse reactions were reported in the NVT group during the study period.
Conclusions:
- Naked-eye 3-dimensional vision training (NVT) is a safe and effective method for controlling myopia progression in children.
- NVT demonstrates potential as a promising intervention for pediatric myopia management, with good patient adherence observed.
