    Background:

    • Apolipoprotein B (apo B) is the primary protein component of human low-density lipoproteins (LDL).
    • Understanding the genetic basis of apo B is essential for studying lipoprotein metabolism and related diseases.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To isolate and characterize cDNA sequences encoding human apolipoprotein B (apo B).
    • To investigate the expression of apo B-related RNA in various human and animal tissues and cell lines.

    Main Methods:

    • Screening of a human liver cDNA library using synthetic oligonucleotide probes.
    • Nucleotide sequencing of identified cDNA inserts.
    • RNA analysis (Northern blotting implied) to detect apo B-related transcripts.

    • A cDNA clone with a 593 bp insert was identified, containing an open reading frame for 197 amino acids.
