National Nursing Organizations II

1.3K
Nursing organizations play a vital role in representing nurses working in specialized clinical settings, such as the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).
The AACN emphasizes a healthy work environment through six standards to achieve an optimal patient outcome. The standards are appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, collaboration, authentic leadership, effective communication, and decision-making. In addition, AACN provides certification programs, webinars, journals, and...

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:

Formulating and Validating Nursing Diagnosis II

2.8K
Nursing diagnoses represent a problem validated by major defining characteristics. There are four categories of nursing diagnoses: problem-focused, risk, health promotion or wellness, and syndrome. The anatomy of a nursing diagnosis includes three components: problem statement or diagnostic label, defining characteristics, and related factors.
Risk nursing diagnoses represent clinical judgments of an individual, family, or community more vulnerable to developing the health problem than others...

The Professional Nurse01:22

The Professional Nurse

4.2K
Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Additionally, nurses must be competent in cognitive, technical, interpersonal, and ethical/legal skills. Some of the best attributes of successful nurses include the following:
Communication skills: These are critical characteristics, especially speaking and listening.

Nursing Evaluation01:15

Nursing Evaluation

3.3K
The evaluation stage signals the end of the nursing process. The nurse gathers evaluative data to assess whether or not the patient has attained the expected results. Whereas the nurse collects data in the nursing assessment to identify the patient's health concerns, the evaluation stage data determines if the indicated health issues are resolved. Evaluative data collection includes two sections: the data acquired to evaluate patient outcomes and the time criteria for data collection.

Area of Science:

  • Nursing
  • Healthcare Management
  • Psychometrics

Background:

  • Interprofessional collaborative practice is crucial for safe, high-quality nursing care.
  • A validated scale for assessing interprofessional collaboration competencies in clinical nurses in Taiwan was lacking.
  • Developing such a scale is essential for improving healthcare systems.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop and validate an Interprofessional Collaboration Practice Competency Scale (IPCPCS) for clinical nurses in Taiwan.
  • To establish the reliability and construct validity of the newly developed scale.
  • To provide a tool for evaluating interprofessional education.

Main Methods:

  • A psychometric study utilizing a cross-sectional survey design.
  • Convenience sampling recruited nurses from seven hospitals within a medical foundation.
  • Data analysis involved descriptive statistics, principal-axis factoring (PAF), Pearson correlation, reliability analysis, and one-way ANOVA.

Main Results:

  • Principal-axis factoring identified three key factors explaining 77.76% of the variance: collaborative leadership/conflict resolution, communication/team functioning, and role clarification/client-centered care.
  • The scale demonstrated excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.970–0.978) and high Pearson correlation coefficients (0.814–0.883).
  • Significant differences in IPCPCS scores were observed based on age, education, experience, nursing ladder position, and interprofessional education participation.

Conclusions:

  • The developed Interprofessional Collaboration Practice Competency Scale (IPCPCS) possesses good reliability and construct validity.
  • The three identified factors are robust measures of interprofessional collaboration competencies.
  • The IPCPCS is a suitable evaluation tool for interprofessional education programs for clinical nurses in Taiwan.
