This case report details a rare instance of stomatitis areata migrans affecting nearly all oral soft tissues, including the gingiva. Clinical and histologic findings of this unusual gingival involvement are presented.

    Area of Science:

    • Oral Medicine
    • Dermatology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Stomatitis areata migrans (SAM) is a benign migratory oral condition.
    • Typically, SAM presents as erythematous patches with raised, yellowish-white borders.
    • Gingival involvement in SAM is exceptionally rare.

    Observation:

    • A 62-year-old male presented with widespread oral lesions characteristic of SAM.
    • The lesions extensively involved all oral soft tissues.
    • Notably, the gingival tissues were also affected, which is an uncommon presentation.

    Findings:

    • Clinical documentation confirmed the extensive nature of the stomatitis areata migrans.
    • Histologic examination provided definitive evidence of the oral lesions.
    • The study specifically highlights and documents the rare involvement of gingival tissues.

    Related Experiment Videos

    Implications:

    • This case expands the known clinical spectrum of stomatitis areata migrans.
    • It underscores the importance of thorough oral examination, even in rare presentations.
    • Understanding gingival involvement aids in accurate diagnosis and management of oral mucosal conditions.
