The COVID-19 pandemic heightened pharmaceutical supply chain risks. A new 2-Tuple ARAS-BWM method identified supply/supplier issues as the primary risk, recommending risk reduction as the best mitigation strategy.
Area of Science:
- Supply Chain Management
- Pharmaceutical Industry
- Risk Assessment
Background:
- The COVID-19 pandemic significantly disrupted global health product supply chains.
- Increased risks within the pharmaceutical supply chain (PSC) necessitate robust assessment and mitigation strategies.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose a novel approach for evaluating and addressing pharmaceutical supply chain risks.
- To identify the best mitigation strategies for the pharmaceutical industry in Tunisia during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Main Methods:
- A 2-Tuple ARAS-BWM approach was developed, integrating ARAS and BWM methods within a linguistic 2-Tuple framework.
- This method was applied to evaluate risks and determine optimal mitigation strategies in Tunisia's pharmaceutical sector.
Main Results:
- The primary risk identified in the pharmaceutical supply chain was related to supply and suppliers.
- The most effective mitigation strategy identified was focused on reducing overall risk.
Conclusions:
- The 2-Tuple ARAS-BWM approach provides an effective framework for pharmaceutical supply chain risk assessment and mitigation.
- Addressing supply and supplier vulnerabilities is critical for enhancing pharmaceutical supply chain resilience during global health crises.
