    Background:

    • Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous hematologic malignancy.
    • Relapse is a significant challenge in AML management.
    • Accurate classification of AML subtypes is crucial for treatment selection.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate changes in bone marrow morphology during AML relapse.
    • To assess the impact of these changes on leukemia classification.

    Main Methods:

    • Comparison of peripheral blood and bone marrow smears from 17 AML patients at presentation and relapse.
    • Analysis of the Maturation Index (MI) in bone marrow smears.
    • Evaluation of changes in FAB (French-American-British) classification.

    • Significant changes (>10 points) in Maturation Index (MI) were observed in 82% (14/17) of patients at relapse.
