    Summary

    This study investigated Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) antigen associations with bone and soft-tissue tumors in Japanese patients. Increased frequencies of HLA-A 26, B 39, and DR blank were observed, suggesting potential links to tumor development and prognosis.

    Background:

    • Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) antigens are associated with various diseases, including some malignancies.
    • Previous research has indicated weak associations between certain HLA antigens and malignancies.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the relationship between specific Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) antigens and the occurrence of malignant bone and soft-tissue tumors.
    • To explore potential correlations between HLA antigen expression and tumor prognosis in a Japanese patient cohort.

    Main Methods:

    • Tissue typing was performed on thirty Japanese patients diagnosed with malignant bone and soft-tissue tumors.
    • Analysis focused on the expression frequencies of HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-DR, and HLA-DQ antigens.
    • Patients were stratified by age of onset and presence of pulmonary metastases for subgroup analysis.

    Main Results:

    • Significant increases in the frequencies of HLA-A 26, HLA-B 39, and HLA-DR blank antigens were observed in the patient cohort.
    • Elevated frequencies of HLA-A 26 and HLA-B 39 were specifically noted in the juvenile subgroup.

    Conclusions:

    • The study identified specific Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) antigen associations (HLA-A 26, HLA-B 39, HLA-DR blank) with malignant bone and soft-tissue tumors in Japanese patients.
    • Certain HLA antigens, like HLA-B 12, may have prognostic implications, especially concerning pulmonary metastasis development in younger patients.
    • Further research is required to determine the etiological and prognostic significance of these observed HLA antigen associations.
