Area of Science:

  • Speech and Hearing Sciences
  • Occupational Health
  • Voice Science

Background:

  • Islamic religious officials are occupational voice users facing significant vocal load.
  • Healthy officials with normal acoustic measures participated, with no initial voice complaints.
  • Vocal fatigue and quality of life are critical for effective communication in this profession.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the effectiveness of a structured voice training program for Islamic religious officials.
  • To assess the impact of the program on objective and subjective voice parameters.
  • To determine if voice training can mitigate vocal fatigue and enhance voice-related quality of life.

Main Methods:

  • A randomized controlled trial with 34 participants divided into experimental and control groups.
  • An 8-week, two-stage voice training program involving 32 sessions.
  • Objective (fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer, HNR) and subjective (VFI, V-RQoL) voice assessments.

Main Results:

  • The experimental group showed significant improvements in all voice measures post-training (p < 0.05).
  • Vocal Fatigue Index (VFI) scores significantly decreased in the trained group.
  • No significant changes were observed in the control group or in initial measurements (except VFI).

Conclusions:

  • The voice training program demonstrated significant positive effects on vocal function and reduced vocal fatigue.
  • Voice training is a beneficial intervention for occupational voice users like religious officials.
  • Integration of voice training into formal education and in-service programs is recommended.
