Social Loafing01:37

Social Loafing

34.8K
Another way in which a group presence can affect performance is social loafing—the exertion of less effort by a person working together with a group. Social loafing occurs when our individual performance cannot be evaluated separately from the group. Thus, group performance declines on easy tasks (Karau & Williams, 1993). Essentially individual group members loaf and let other group members pick up the slack. Because each individual’s efforts cannot be evaluated,...

Persuasion Strategies01:52

Persuasion Strategies

38.6K
Researchers have tested many persuasion strategies, including the foot-in-the door and the door-in-the-face techniques, in a variety of contexts. Ultimately, the principles are effective in selling products and changing people’s attitude, ideas, and behaviors (Cialdini & Goldstein, 2004).

Social Traps01:41

Social Traps

22.3K
Social traps are negative situations where people get caught in a direction or relationship that later proves to be unpleasant, with no easy way to back out of or avoid. The concept was orignally introduced by John Platt who applied psychology to Garrett Hardin's "Tragedy of the Commons", where in New England herd owners could let their cattle graze in the common ground. This situation seems like a good idea, but an individual could have an advantage. If they owned...

Routes of Persuasion02:20

Routes of Persuasion

64.1K
Persuasion is the process of changing our attitude toward something based on some kind of communication. Much of the persuasion we experience comes from outside forces. How do people convince others to change their attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors? What communications do you receive that attempt to persuade you to change your attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors?

Adopting a healthier lifestyle often requires overcoming significant challenges, but leveraging psychological, social, and cultural resources can facilitate meaningful change. Effective self-change hinges on understanding and applying key tools such as motivation and goal setting, which help sustain efforts toward long-term health benefits.
Motivation and Self-Determination
Motivation, the driving force behind behavior, plays a pivotal role at every stage of the change process. The research...

Methods of Documentation VI: Case Management Model

570
The case management model is a multidisciplinary approach that involves healthcare professionals from diverse disciplines, such as physicians, nurses, therapists, social workers, and pharmacists, working collaboratively to address the various needs of patients. Each healthcare professional brings unique expertise and perspectives, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the patient's condition and tailoring treatment plans accordingly.
For example, a patient with a chronic...

Summary

Autologous hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation (ASCT) requires sufficient stem cell collection. Plerixafor can enhance hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC) collection in patients with poor mobilization, improving ASCT success rates.

Area of Science:

  • Hematology
  • Transplantation Medicine
  • Cellular Therapy

Background:

  • Autologous hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation (ASCT) is a cornerstone therapy for various diseases.
  • Successful ASCT depends on adequate collection of CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) via peripheral blood mobilization.
  • Standard mobilization protocols using granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) are not always effective, leading to mobilization failure in a significant patient proportion.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To discuss risk factors associated with poor CD34+ HPC mobilization.
  • To summarize current strategies for optimizing HPC mobilization and collection.
  • To highlight the role of plerixafor in enhancing stem cell collection for ASCT.

Main Methods:

  • Review of existing literature on hematopoietic progenitor cell mobilization.
  • Analysis of risk factors contributing to mobilization failure.
  • Evaluation of therapeutic strategies, including the use of plerixafor, to improve HPC collection.

Main Results:

  • Mobilization failure is defined by specific low CD34+ cell counts after standard G-CSF or chemo-mobilization protocols.
  • Plerixafor, a CXCR4 inhibitor, is an effective option to enhance HPC collection in patients with poor mobilization.
  • Identification of patient-specific risk factors for poor mobilization is crucial for implementing optimized strategies.

Conclusions:

  • Optimizing CD34+ HPC mobilization is critical for successful ASCT.
  • Strategies involving risk factor assessment and targeted interventions like plerixafor can improve stem cell collection.
  • Further research into pre-emptive and rescue strategies for mobilization failure is warranted.
