Abnormal Proliferation02:23

Abnormal Proliferation

4.5K
Under normal conditions, most adult cells remain in a non-proliferative state unless stimulated by internal or external factors to replace lost cells. Abnormal cell proliferation is a condition in which the cell's growth exceeds and is uncoordinated with normal cells. In such situations, cell division persists in the same excessive manner even after cessation of the stimuli, leading to persistent tumors. The tumor arises from the damaged cells that replicate to pass the damage to the...

Summary

High expression of Protein phosphatase 4 catalytic subunit (PPP4C) correlates with poor prognosis in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). PPP4C is an independent predictive factor for overall and progression-free survival in DLBCL patients.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Molecular Biology
  • Biochemistry

Background:

  • The prognostic role of Protein phosphatase 4 catalytic subunit (PPP4C) in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) remains unclear.
  • Understanding PPP4C's role is crucial for improving DLBCL patient outcomes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate PPP4C expression in DLBCL tissues.
  • To analyze the correlation between PPP4C expression and clinicopathological parameters.
  • To assess the prognostic significance of PPP4C in DLBCL.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of PPP4C mRNA expression using TCGA and GEO datasets.
  • Immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays for protein expression.
  • Correlation analysis using chi-square or Fisher's exact tests.
  • Prognostic evaluation via Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox hazard models.

Main Results:

  • Elevated PPP4C mRNA levels were observed in DLBCL tumor tissues compared to normal tissues.
  • High PPP4C expression correlated with higher ECOG scores (P=0.003).
  • Higher PPP4C levels were associated with significantly worse overall survival (P=0.001) and progression-free survival (P=0.002).
  • PPP4C emerged as an independent predictor for OS and PFS (P=0.011, P=0.040).

Conclusions:

  • Increased PPP4C expression is linked to a poor prognosis in DLBCL.
  • PPP4C serves as a potential independent prognostic biomarker for DLBCL patients.
