Thrombus discrimination with electron density: potential implications for non-contrast computed tomography imaging.

Electron density (ED) imaging using dual-layer spectral computed tomography (CT) significantly improves thrombus visualization in vitro. This advanced imaging technique offers higher contrast-to-noise ratio for better identification of blood clots compared to conventional CT.

- In vitro, ED imaging significantly enhances the visualization of thrombus material compared to conventional and low monoenergetic CT imaging.
- The superior CNR provided by ED imaging suggests its potential for improved diagnostic accuracy in clinical applications.
- Further research is warranted to explore the clinical utility of ED imaging in diagnosing and managing conditions involving thrombus.
