Simple and effective sialography with modification of contrast injection

• This report details two cases of salivary gland defects, reviewing etiology, risk factors, and clinical presentation.

Observation:

• Case 1: A 17-year-old male presented with a submandibular lump; sialography revealed Wharton's duct stoma occlusion.
• Case 2: A 19-year-old male presented with fluid discharge; sialography suggested a sialocutaneous fistula.
• Both cases utilized a modified contrast injector for sialography.

Findings:

• Sialography accurately identified ductal occlusion in Case 1 and a sialocutaneous fistula in Case 2.
• The imaging procedure aided in the subsequent management of both patients.
• Sialography demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity in assessing salivary duct obstructions.

Implications:

• Sialography is a valuable, simple, and effective diagnostic tool for salivary duct abnormalities.
• Accurate diagnosis via sialography facilitates appropriate treatment planning for salivary gland disorders.
• This technique is beneficial for evaluating iatrogenic salivary tract injuries and other ductal obstructions.
