Causal relationship between intervertebral disc degeneration and osteoporosis: a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian

Osteoporosis (OP) and femoral neck bone mineral density (BMD) do not causally influence intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). However, increased total body and lumbar spine BMD are risk factors for IVDD, while heel and femur neck BMD show potential causal links.

- eBMD and FN-BMD may have a causal role in IVDD. Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms.
