Summary

Thermography can screen for normal endothelial function in adults with cardiovascular risk factors. A palmar region temperature of ≥ 36 °C after one minute of ischemia indicates healthy endothelial function.

Background:

  • Endothelial dysfunction (ED) is a precursor to accelerated atherosclerosis and premature death.
  • Early detection of ED is crucial for cardiovascular risk management.
  • Screening methods for ED need to be accessible and non-invasive.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the utility of infrared thermography for screening endothelial function.
  • To assess thermography's effectiveness in adults with cardiovascular risk factors.

Main Methods:

  • Cross-sectional diagnostic test study.
  • Endothelial function assessed by brachial arterial diameter changes post-ischemia and nitroglycerin.
  • Palmar thermography performed one minute after ischemia.
