    Summary

Interventional radiology effectively manages recurrent oriental cholangiohepatitis symptoms. Techniques like percutaneous stone removal and duct drainage provided relief for most patients, avoiding further surgery.

    Area of Science:

    • Interventional Radiology
    • Hepatobiliary Medicine
    • Gastroenterology

    Background:

    • Oriental cholangiohepatitis (OCH) can cause recurrent biliary symptoms after surgery.
    • Biliary stone formation and strictures are common complications in OCH management.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of interventional radiologic techniques in managing recurrent symptoms of OCH.
    • To assess the role of percutaneous procedures in OCH patients with biliary obstruction.

    Main Methods:

    • Percutaneous removal of biliary stones using basket retrieval, crushing, suction, and irrigation.
    • Percutaneous drainage of obstructed bile ducts with catheters.

    Main Results:

    • Six of eight patients (75%) achieved complete or partial symptomatic relief.
    • Interventional radiology obviated the need for additional surgical intervention in the majority of cases.

    Conclusions:

    • Interventional radiologic techniques are valuable for managing recurrent OCH symptoms.
    • Percutaneous approaches offer a minimally invasive alternative for biliary stone removal and stricture drainage in OCH.
