Background:

Established narratives on premature ejaculation (PE) are over 25 years old.
These older concepts may not align with current empirical findings and clinical understanding of PE.

Purpose of the Study:

To identify outdated narratives concerning PE.
To revise these narratives using recent scientific literature.

Main Methods:

Literature review focusing on five key PE areas: prevalence, age-related differences, diagnostic ejaculation latency (EL), PE subtypes, and non-intercourse sexual activities.
Analysis of existing literature and recent studies to support or challenge established PE narratives.

Main Results:

Significant revisions were needed for PE prevalence and validated EL criteria.
Narratives on PE subtypes and inclusion of partnered sexual activities were expanded.
Conclusions regarding age-related PE changes and subtype differences required re-evaluation.

Conclusions:

Research on PE is evolving, necessitating continuous updates to existing knowledge.
Ongoing research is crucial for refining our understanding and management of PE.
