    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To explore the role of CCBs in regulating GI tract function, specifically smooth muscle contraction and cellular secretion.
    • To review existing evidence on the efficacy of CCBs in managing esophageal motility disorders.

    Main Methods:

    • Review of animal studies (opossum, baboon) examining the effects of verapamil and diltiazem on esophageal smooth muscle.
