Summary

The double incision technique for gluteal augmentation with implants shows fewer complications than the single incision method. Delayed wound healing was the most frequent issue, manageable with conservative care.

Background:

  • Gluteal implants are increasingly popular for gluteal augmentation.
  • This study evaluates complication rates of two surgical approaches: single-incision and double-incision techniques.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare complication rates between single- and double-incision techniques for gluteal implant placement.
  • To identify the most common complications associated with each technique.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 181 patients undergoing gluteal augmentation with implants (October 2018 - August 2022).
  • Comparison of complication rates between single-incision (n=134) and double-incision (n=47) techniques.
  • Statistical analysis using independent sample t-test and Fisher's exact test.

  • The overall complication rate per implant was significantly higher in the single-incision group (16.6%) compared to the double-incision group (6.6%).
