Asepsis is the practice of preventing or breaking the chain of infection. The nurse employs aseptic techniques to prevent the spread of microorganisms and reduce the risk of diseases. Hand hygiene is the cornerstone of aseptic techniques and is classified into medical and surgical asepsis. Medical asepsis includes hand hygiene and the use of gloves. Background:

Contact dermatitis involves inflammatory skin reactions to allergens or irritants.
Food allergens can cause contact dermatitis, though typically via ingestion.
Zucchini-induced contact dermatitis is infrequently reported outside of dietary intake.

Observation:

A patient presented with symptoms suggestive of allergic contact dermatitis.
The suspected trigger was direct contact with zucchini.
A history of prior sensitization to squash was noted.

Findings:

The case confirmed allergic contact dermatitis specifically to zucchini.
Sensitization appeared to be secondary to a previous exposure to squash.
This suggests cross-reactivity or sequential sensitization pathways.

Implications:

Clinicians should consider zucchini as a potential contact allergen, especially in patients with a history of squash or related gourd exposure.
Further research into the allergenic components of zucchini and cross-reactivity patterns is warranted.
This case expands the known spectrum of food-related contact dermatitis.
