Urologic Endoscopic Procedure: Cystoscopic Examination01:28

Urologic Endoscopic Procedure: Cystoscopic Examination

Meaning of Cystoscopic Examination:Cystoscopy is an essential diagnostic tool in urology that is used to assess the structure and function of the genitourinary system. It provides a direct view of the urethra, bladder, and, in some cases, the ureteral openings. This procedure helps detect structural abnormalities, infections, cancers, and blockages in the urinary tract. There are two types of cystoscopy:Flexible cystoscopy is commonly performed in outpatient settings due to its less invasive...

Area of Science:

  • Neurosurgery
  • Endocrinology
  • Surgical Anatomy

Background:

  • Pituitary tumors invading the cavernous sinus (CS) have low resection rates (<30%).
  • Extended surgical approaches are considered for specific secreting adenomas.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe the endoscopic transcavernous approach for functional pituitary adenomas.
  • To illustrate the surgical steps and anatomy involved.

Main Methods:

  • Endoscopic transcavernous approach.
  • Detailed description of surgical anatomy.
  • Video illustration of the procedure.

Main Results:

  • The study outlines the key steps of the endoscopic transcavernous approach.
  • Advantages and limitations of this surgical technique are discussed.

Conclusions:

  • Thorough understanding of cavernous sinus (CS) anatomy is crucial.
  • Laboratory familiarity with this endoscopic approach is essential for safe and effective pituitary adenoma resection.
  • Appropriate surgical instrumentation is vital to minimize vascular injury risks.
