  • To conduct a scoping review of available treatment approaches for managing temporomandibular disorders (TMDs).

  • An extensive literature search was performed across Scopus, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science.
  • Systematic reviews published within the last five years were included.
  • 109 studies were selected from 2183 identified publications.

  • 39 articles focused on non-invasive approaches, 120 on minimally invasive, and 15 on surgical interventions.
  • Non-invasive methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, physical therapy, and acupuncture demonstrated efficacy in pain management and functional improvement for TMDs.
  • Emerging treatments present promising alternatives for managing these disorders.

Conclusions:

  • Non-invasive and conservative therapies are effective for managing TMD symptoms and improving function.
  • Surgery should be reserved for severe TMD cases, ideally combined with conservative therapies for optimal outcomes.
