Bode Plots Construction01:24

Bode Plots Construction

697
The Bode plot is an essential tool in control system analysis, mapping the frequency response of a system through a magnitude plot and a phase plot, both against a logarithmic frequency axis. To construct a Bode plot, consider the transfer function H(ω):

Bode Plots

619
Bode plots are graphical tools that use logarithmic scales for frequency on the x-axis and gain in decibels on the y-axis. This logarithmic method allows a wide range of frequencies to be compactly displayed, enabling the analysis of component effects on circuit behavior across a broad frequency spectrum.
A network function represents the ratio of a system's output to its input, with the magnitude and phase angle derived from the complex network function. The decibel logarithmic gain is...

Transfer function and Bode Plots-II

340
In the standard form, the transfer function is shown in constant gain, poles/zeros at origin, simple poles/zeros, and quadratic poles/zeros; each contributing uniquely to the system's overall response. The term represents the magnitude of the simple zero:

Transfer function and Bode Plots-I

A transfer function presented in its standard form integrates elements' constant gain, the zeros, and poles at the origin, simple zeros and poles, and quadratic poles and zeros. The transfer function can be written as H(ω):

Receiver Operating Characteristic Plot01:15

Receiver Operating Characteristic Plot

127
A ROC (Receiver Operating Characteristic) plot is a graphical tool used to assess the performance of a binary classification model by illustrating the trade-off between sensitivity (true positive rate) and specificity (false positive rate). By plotting sensitivity against 1 - specificity across various threshold settings, the ROC curve shows how well the model distinguishes between classes, with a curve closer to the top-left corner indicating a more accurate model. The area under the ROC curve...

The Cochlea01:13

The Cochlea

44.7K
The cochlea is a coiled structure in the inner ear that contains hair cells—the sensory receptors of the auditory system. Sound waves are transmitted to the cochlea by small bones attached to the eardrum called the ossicles, which vibrate the oval window that leads to the inner ear. This causes fluid in the chambers of the cochlea to move, vibrating the basilar membrane.

Area of Science:

  • Audiology and Bioengineering
  • Biomedical Signal Processing
  • Medical Imaging and Visualization

Background:

  • Existing visualizations for electrocochleography (ECochG) along the basilar membrane (BM) lack standardization.
  • This heterogeneity hinders comparisons of ECochG data within and between cochlear implant (CI) users and across publications.
  • A systematic review identified diverse visualization methods in the literature.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To synthesize existing ECochG visualization techniques found in scientific literature.
  • To introduce a novel, generalized framework for visualizing ECochG data in CI users.
  • To facilitate more consistent and accurate analysis of ECochG recordings.

Main Methods:

  • Conducted a systematic review of PubMed and EMBASE for studies on ECochG and CI.
  • Analyzed figures from 74 articles (115 figures) that visualized ECochG responses.
  • Developed the ZH-ECochG Bode plot, incorporating advantages from existing methods and tested on three CI recipients.

Main Results:

  • Identified various ECochG visualization approaches with differing axes and conventions.
  • The novel ZH-ECochG Bode plot visualizes ECochG amplitude and phase across tonotopic regions and insertion depths.
  • The plot integrates pre- and postoperative audiograms for direct comparison with ECochG responses.

Conclusions:

  • The ZH-ECochG Bode plot offers a standardized, generalized visual representation for ECochG data.
  • This visualization facilitates the study of complex ECochG potentials along the basilar membrane.
  • Improved comparisons of ECochG recordings within and among CI users and publications are now possible.
