    Summary

    This study compared three fibrinogen/fibrin split products (FSP) assays, finding the Dade assay most consistently detected abnormal levels in patients. While all methods detected normal FSP levels, Dade, Sigma SCT, and TWT assays showed comparable abilities for abnormal FSP detection.

    Background:

    • Fibrinogen/fibrin split products (FSP) are biomarkers associated with coagulation disorders.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare the sensitivity and quantitative accuracy of three FSP detection methods: staphylococcal clumping test (SCT), Thrombo-Wellcotest (TWT), and Dade assay.
    • To evaluate FSP detection in normal donors and patient blood samples, including those with acute leukemia undergoing chemotherapy.

    • The CBC assay is less sensitive for detecting both suspicious and abnormal FSP values.
