    Summary

    Glomerular cell culture is a widely used research technique in renal biology. However, isolating individual cell types from glomeruli remains challenging due to the lack of clear markers. This issue leads to contamination by other glomerular or non-glomerular cells, affecting experimental results. Despite these challenges, researchers have made progress in understanding the composition of basement membrane components and confirming the existence of bone marrow-derived mesangial cells. The review highlights the variability in prostaglandin synthesis studies across species and the need for better methods to separate and culture glomerular cells. Key areas for future research include determining the best culture conditions and substrates for cell growth.
