The double bipolar method (DBM) in robotic surgery is feasible for robot-assisted partial cystectomy. Utilizing DBM in combined gynecological and urological procedures can reduce surgical costs.

Background:

  • The double bipolar method (DBM) is common in Japanese general surgery and gynecology but less so in urology.
  • A patient with stage IA endometrial cancer presented with an incidental 2-cm bladder lesion.

Observation:

  • A simultaneous robot-assisted total hysterectomy and partial cystectomy was planned using the da Vinci Xi system.
  • The DBM was employed for the hysterectomy and subsequently for the partial cystectomy.

Findings:

  • The DBM was successfully utilized for robot-assisted partial cystectomy without requiring additional instruments.
  • Maryland bipolar forceps enabled precise and bloodless excision of the bladder wall.
