Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in fetuses can cause brain damage, even with normal MRI scans. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) detected reduced N-acetylaspartate/choline (tNAA/tCr) ratios in fetuses with gross brain abnormalities.

- MRS may aid in assessing the extent of brain damage in congenital CMV infection.
