Ru(PPh3)3Cl2 reacts with Bi from an ethylenediamine (en) solution of K5Bi4 to yield a new architype of 13-vertex [Bi10{RuPPh3}3]- (1) composed of unprecedented incomplete cuboidal Bi73- and triangular Bi33- held together by {RuPPh3}2+.
