    Background:

    • Fatigue is a common and debilitating symptom in multiple sclerosis (MS).
    • Current treatments for MS-related fatigue have limited efficacy and potential side effects.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the efficacy of amantadine hydrochloride in treating fatigue in patients with multiple sclerosis.
    • To compare the effects of amantadine hydrochloride versus placebo on fatigue severity.

    Main Methods:

    • A double-blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted.
    • Thirty-two patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis participated in the trial.
    • Patients received either amantadine hydrochloride (100 mg twice daily) or a placebo.

    Main Results:

    • Amantadine hydrochloride resulted in marked improvement in 31% of patients, moderate in 15.6%, and mild in 15.6%.
