Tumor Immunotherapy01:27

Tumor Immunotherapy

504
Immunotherapy is a treatment that boosts or manipulates the immune system to fight diseases, including cancer. For instance, by stimulating an immune response through vaccinations against viruses that cause cancers, like hepatitis B virus and human papillomavirus, these diseases can be prevented. Nonetheless, some cancer cells can avoid the immune system due to their rapid mutation and division. The immune response to many cancers involves three phases: elimination, equilibrium, and escape.

What is Monogastric Digestion?

71.0K
The human body contains a monogastric digestive system. In a monogastric digestive system, the stomach only contains one chamber in which it digests food. Several other animal species also have monogastric digestive systems, including pigs, horses, dogs, and birds. This chapter, however, focuses on the human digestive system.

Area of Science:

  • Allergy and Immunology
  • Clinical Nutrition
  • Immunotherapy

Background:

  • Many patients undergoing oral immunotherapy (OIT) have allergies to multiple foods.
  • Sequential single-food OIT or combined multifood OIT are current options for these patients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the feasibility and outcomes of multifood OIT compared to sequential single-food OIT.
  • To highlight the potential time and cost benefits of multifood OIT.

Main Methods:

  • Treatment protocols for multifood OIT are similar to single-food OIT.
  • Clinics experienced in single-food OIT can readily adopt multifood OIT protocols.

Main Results:

  • Multifood OIT offers substantial time and cost savings for patients with multiple food allergies.
  • Outcomes of multifood OIT are comparable to those of sequential single-food OIT.

Conclusions:

  • Patients with multiple food allergies should be offered multifood OIT as a convenient and effective treatment option.
  • Multifood OIT presents a viable alternative to sequential single-food OIT, streamlining treatment and potentially reducing costs.
