Idiopathic giant adrenal calcification: a rare case report

Background:

Observation:

• A 57-year-old female presented with sudden epigastric pain.
• Abdominal CT revealed a large (7.8 × 5.4 × 7.1 cm) calcified mass in the hepatorenal recess, identified as primary giant adrenal calcification after excluding secondary causes.

Findings:

• Surgical resection of the right adrenal gland and calcified mass was performed.
• The patient experienced complete pain relief post-surgery.
• No recurrence was observed during a 6-month follow-up period.

Implications:

• This case underscores the potential of giant adrenal calcification to cause acute abdominal pain.
• Further case reports are necessary to elucidate the etiology, pathogenesis, and optimal management of idiopathic adrenal calcification.
