Summary

The study found that the Apolipoprotein E (APOE) E4 variant may protect against persistent olfactory dysfunction (OD) in Long-COVID patients, contrary to its association with worse outcomes in other contexts. This suggests APOE E4 might be a protective factor for COVID-19-related smell loss.
