Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate simulation-based peer learning sessions as an educational tool for in-service nurses.
  • To assess the usefulness of peer learning for capacity building in advanced nursing care.

Main Methods:

  • A pre-test, post-test, and retention test design was employed with 150 in-service nurses.
  • Five structured simulation-based peer learning modules using the DOAP (demonstrate, observe, assist, perform) method were implemented.
  • Nurses were divided into five groups, with each attending one module on advanced nursing care.

Main Results:

  • A statistically significant increase in mean knowledge scores was observed in the post-test compared to the pre-test (p < 0.05).
  • Knowledge retention showed a decline in the retention test compared to the post-test, significant only in the first session group.
  • Simulation-based peer learning effectively improved baseline knowledge among participating nurses.

Conclusions:

  • Simulation-based peer learning is a valuable and effective tool for continuing nursing education.
  • This method can significantly reduce the theory-practice gap in nursing.
  • Peer learning enhances nursing capacity and knowledge application in clinical settings.
