The PROMINENT trial showed pemafibrate did not reduce cardiovascular events. However, pemafibrate may benefit diabetic microangiopathy and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, warranting further investigation.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular medicine
- Metabolic diseases
- Pharmacology
Background:
- The PROMINENT trial evaluated pemafibrate for cardiovascular risk reduction.
- Pemafibrate is a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) agonist.
- The trial yielded neutral results regarding its primary efficacy endpoint.
