Background:

Patient transfers are critical in inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs).
Existing transfer assessment tools have limitations in IRF settings.
A validated scale is needed to assess transfer assistance, adaptations, and strategies.

Purpose of the Study:

To present initial psychometric analyses of the Comprehensive Inpatient Transfer Tool (CITT).
To evaluate the reliability, validity, and responsiveness of the CITT for IRF patients.

Main Methods:

The CITT was developed by an interdisciplinary team.
Interrater and intrarater reliability were assessed using intraclass correlations.
Concurrent validity was examined using Spearman correlations with FIM and IRF-PAI transfer scores.
Responsiveness was evaluated using paired t-tests.

Main Results:

Excellent interrater (0.90-0.98) and intrarater (0.90-0.98) reliability were observed.
Concurrent validity showed modest agreement (0.6-0.8) with FIM and IRF-PAI.
The Minimal Detectable Change (MDC) for the CITT was 7.11 points.
Significant differences in CITT scores were found between admission and discharge (P < 0.001).

Conclusions:

The CITT is a reliable and useful scale for evaluating transfer skills in IRF patients.
It addresses limitations of existing transfer measures.
The tool demonstrates strong psychometric properties for clinical use in IRFs.
