Background:

  • Primary breast lymphoma (PBL) is a rare malignancy, comprising less than 1% of breast cancers.

  • A 60-year-old female presented with a painless left breast mass and axillary lymphadenopathy.
  • The patient was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, a type of PBL.
  • No prior history of breast cancer was noted.

Findings:

  • Distinguishing PBL from primary breast carcinoma presents diagnostic challenges.
  • Radiological imaging (mammography, ultrasound) is vital for initial assessment.
  • Excisional biopsy with immunohistochemistry is essential for definitive diagnosis and subcategorization.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the rarity of PBL in the Middle East.
  • Accurate diagnostic and classification techniques are crucial for effective treatment planning.
  • Considering PBL in cases of rapidly growing breast masses is important for timely intervention.
