    Area of Science:

    • Endocrinology
    • Oncology
    • Radiology

    Background:

    • Adrenal incidentalomas are common, often discovered during imaging for unrelated conditions.
    • Distinguishing between benign and malignant adrenal tumors is crucial for appropriate management.
    • Nonfunctioning adrenal cortical adenomas represent a significant portion of these incidental findings.

    Observation:

    • A 49-year-old female presented with an incidentally discovered abdominal mass during diabetes mellitus evaluation.
    • Imaging revealed a small, homogeneously enhancing mass in the right adrenal upper pole.
    • Hormonal evaluation and venography showed no signs of hyperactivity or venous invasion.

    Findings:

    • Histological diagnosis confirmed a benign adrenal cortical adenoma.
    • The tumor was nonfunctioning, with no clinical or laboratory evidence of hormonal overactivity.
    • The mass was successfully resected.

    Implications:

    • This case highlights the importance of thorough evaluation of incidentally discovered adrenal masses.
    • It underscores the need for a multidisciplinary approach in managing adrenal incidentalomas.
    • Understanding the characteristics of nonfunctioning adenomas aids in clinical decision-making and patient management.
