Monoclonal antibodies obtained by lymphocytic hybridization represent highly specific and homogenous probes capable of distinguishing subtle structural differences on the antigens they are directed against. This field of technology is being successfully applied to research in clinical biology. Monoclonal antibodies are powerful tools for improving: specifity and sensitivity of immunoassays, identification of substances for new diagnostic purposes. These points will be illustrated by several examples of our recent work in this field.
