Nursing Process for Patient and Caregiver Teaching I: Assessment and Diagnosis

1.5K
The nursing process provides a clinical decision-making framework for patients and families to establish and implement a personalized care plan. Since part of the nurse's duties is to teach patients, the steps of the nursing process are the most effective way to approach instruction. The nursing process and the teaching-learning process are inextricably linked.
It is critical to determine the patient's learning needs during the assessment. Determination of learning needs compounds data...

Planning Nursing Care I

4.4K
The planning phase of the nursing process helps nurses set priorities, outline patient-centered goals and expected outcomes, and tailor nursing interventions to align with the aligned care plan. Through the planning phase, the nurse applies critical thinking skills to align and develop interventions according to the patient's needs. It provides continuity of care allowing patients to receive the maximum benefit from treatment. It serves as a pilot plan for allocating individual staff to a...

Traditional Level Of Health Care System

2.7K
The levels of care describe the services provided in the healthcare system. Accordingly, there are six levels of the traditional healthcare system in the US: preventive, primary, secondary, tertiary, restorative, and continuing healthcare. A nurse must understand how the healthcare industry organizes and provides services within these levels of care.
The preventive healthcare service includes tests for screening. Preventive health care services include identifying and reducing disease risk...

    Summary

Understanding factors influencing emergency stroke care seeking is crucial. Identifying promoters and distractors can help nurses improve patient outcomes and reduce delays in treatment.

    Area of Science:

    • Neurology
    • Public Health
    • Nursing Science

    Background:

    • Numerous factors influence emergency care-seeking behavior.
    • Recognizing these variables can empower nurses to improve stroke outcomes.
    • Timely care-seeking is critical for acute stroke management.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To develop a research framework detailing variables affecting acute stroke care-seeking.
    • To synthesize existing literature on stroke care-seeking behavior.

    Main Methods:

    • A narrative review employing theory synthesis methodology.
    • Identification and relationship establishment of variables based on existing literature.

    Main Results:

    • Fourteen studies identified significant variables in hyperacute stroke care-seeking.
    • Eight variables were characterized as either promoters (e.g., perceived severity, stroke knowledge) or distractors (e.g., lack of resources, comorbidities).
    • Promoters expedite care, while distractors delay hospital arrival.

    Conclusions:

    • The developed framework can inform stroke awareness programs.
    • Interventions can be targeted at individuals at risk for delayed stroke care.
    • Understanding decision-making complexity is key to improving acute stroke care access.
