Background:

  • Social media platforms are increasingly used to disseminate urological research.
  • Automating the creation of engaging and accurate social media content is challenging.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess a generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform for automating the creation of social media (SoMe) posts from urological journal articles.
  • To evaluate the accuracy, appropriateness, and compelling nature of AI-generated SoMe posts.

Main Methods:

  • One hundred social media posts from top urology journals were collected.
  • A generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) tool was developed to autogenerate posts.
  • Physicians evaluated posts for accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Academic authors and the general public (via Amazon Mechanical Turk) compared AI-generated posts against original journal posts.

Main Results:

  • AI post generation took a median of 10.2 seconds.
  • 76.6% of AI-generated posts met accuracy and appropriateness criteria.
  • AI-generated posts were consistently preferred over original journal posts by both academic urologists and the general public (P < .05).

Conclusions:

  • Generative AI can effectively automate the creation of accurate and engaging social media posts from urology journal abstracts.
  • AI-generated content is well-received by both the academic community and the general public.
