Summary

Elevated carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) levels can indicate malignancy, but this case shows a ruptured liver cyst can also cause high CA19-9. Prompt diagnosis and treatment led to normal CA19-9 levels.

Area of Science:

  • Hepatology
  • Oncology
  • Gastroenterology

Background:

  • Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) is a tumor marker often used to assess hepatic cyst malignancy.
  • Elevated CA19-9 levels can be associated with various conditions, including benign liver diseases.
